San Antonio residents can expect upcoming lane closures in Downtown as two construction projects are set to begin in the area. The closures are part of the city's efforts to improve infrastructure and accessibility in the downtown area.

Starting on Monday, March 18, 2024, the southbound lanes of Santa Rosa from Dolorosa to Cesar Chavez will be closed for utility and road work. According to the announcement, this closure will add to the current closure of northbound traffic between Dolorosa and Cesar Chavez, resulting in a full roadway closure of Santa Rosa. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the closure, ensuring that nearby businesses and facilities, including the Public Safety Headquarters and Federal Building, remain accessible.

Additionally, the northbound lanes of South Alamo Street from Cesar Chavez to Market will also experience closures for utility and road work starting on the same date. During this period, a single southbound lane will remain open, and southbound traffic will not be able to turn right onto Nueva from March 18 through May 2024 due to construction at that intersection.

City of San Antonio Public Works emphasized their commitment to keeping residents and business owners informed about traffic and construction updates through various communication channels. They stated, "City of San Antonio Public Works will continue to notify area residents and business owners of traffic and construction updates through a variety of methods, including in-person visits, public meetings, emails, media outreach, and social media."

Both construction projects are part of larger bond projects aimed at enhancing the city's infrastructure. The work on Santa Rosa is associated with the Zona Cultural Streets 2017 Bond Project, scheduled for completion in Spring 2025. On the other hand, the construction on South Alamo Street is part of the South Alamo Street 2017 Bond Project, set to be completed by Winter 2025.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to visit the respective project websites, SASpeakUp.com/ZonaCultural and SASpeakUp.com/SouthAlamo, for more information and to sign up for construction updates.
