Residents of San Antonio are being encouraged to actively participate in the City Charter review process by the Charter Review Commission. The Commission is soliciting input from residents on various aspects of the City's Charter, including topics such as an independent ethics officer, City Council compensation, City Manager tenure, City Council districts, and language updates to reflect current laws and processes.

According to Charter Review Co-Chairs Bonnie Prosser Elder and David Zammiello, the upcoming public comment sessions in March and April present an excellent opportunity for residents to engage with the Commission and contribute their ideas. The Commission, comprised of community members with expertise in various fields, is dedicated to researching and gathering public input to propose changes aimed at improving the City Charter.

Residents can participate in the process by attending the in-person public comment meetings scheduled on March 4, March 21, April 11, and April 25 at the Central Library on Soledad Street. Additionally, input can be provided digitally by visiting SASpeakUp.com/CharterReviewCommission or by calling 3-1-1.

The City Charter can be amended every two years to introduce new procedures, protocols, and policies. Any proposed amendments resulting from the Commission's recommendations will be subject to approval by the City Council before being placed on the ballot for San Antonio voters.

The public comment sessions are crucial for gathering the community's feedback on updating provisions within the City Charter. Residents are encouraged to participate in these sessions to ensure their voices are heard and considered in the revision process.

The full schedule for the 2024 Charter Review Commission Public Comment Sessions is as follows:

- March 4, 5:30 p.m. at Central Library

- March 14, 5:30 p.m. at Central Library
